Kazakh deputy defense minister connected to Israeli businessman arrested

Kazakhstan's security services say the country's deputy defense minister has been arrested on corruption charges. A State Security Services spokesman said Monday that Kazhimurat Mayermanov was taken into custody late last week. Local media reports have linked Mayermanov's case with last month's arrest of Israeli businessman Boris Sheinkman on fraud charges. Sheinkman, who served in the Soviet army before emigrating to Israel, has operated as a middleman between Israeli arms vendors and the Kazakh government.
