Moderate earthquake shakes Turkey; no injuries reported

A seismology center says a moderate earthquake, with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8, has shaken a city in southwestern Turkey. There are no reports of any injuries. The Istanbul-based Kandilli observatory says the epicenter of the quake is the town of Honaz, near the city of Denizli. The quake struck at 7:48 a.m. on Friday. The Dogan news agency said people ran out of their homes in panic in Denizli, though there were no reports of any damage to buildings. Earthquakes are frequent in Turkey, much of which lies atop the active North Anatolian fault.
