Peru grants asylum to Venezuelan opposition leader
By JERUSALEM POST STAFF
Peru on Monday decided to grant asylum to a Venezuelan opposition leader who says he is a victim of political persecution by President Hugo Chavez's government.
Manuel Rosales has been charged with corruption in Venezuela but says his trial there would not be fair.
Rosales entered Peru as a tourist April 4 and requested political asylum last week.
Peruvian Foreign Minister Jose Antonio Garcia Belaunde announced the decision Monday in Congress.
