Japan executed four death row inmates by hanging Thursday, a news report said.
The Kyoto News agency report had no further details.
Japan's criminal justice system is extremely secretive. Death row inmates are often held for many years, and are executed without prior announcement.
Japan had 107 inmates on death row as of March 31, according to the Justice Ministry.
