Russian news agencies report that Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has said Russia wants to reach a compromise on arms control issues with the incoming US administration.
Russia and the US have so far failed to negotiate an extension or replacement of the 1991 START arms reduction treaty or a replacement.
Russian news agencies say Putin told a lawyers' conference Monday that he hopes US President-elect Barack Obama's administration will be more constructive and responsible in dealing with the issue.
They also say he also reiterated that Russia will not deploy missiles to its Kaliningrad region if the US cancels plans for missile defense sites in Poland in the Czech Republic.
