Russian conscript kills 3 fellow soldiers and then shoots himself

Russia's Defense Ministry says an army conscript killed three fellow soldiers and then himself in Russia's Far East. Regional defense spokesman Vladimir Lemar said in televised remarks that the conscript deserted from the Sergeyevka garrison with an assault rifle Monday. Lemar said the deserter fatally shot three servicemen who pursued him and wounded another soldier. The Russian military has been plagued by brutal bullying of young conscripts. Last year, 341 Russian servicemen committed suicide. In 2004, a soldier in the Sergeyevka garrison killed three policemen and a military officer. He survived a suicide attempt and was sentenced to life in prison.
