UN chief: 2009 a 'make-or-break' year for UN

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Tuesday night that 2009 would be a "make-or-break" year for the organization and its member countries. Ban said during an Oval Office meeting with President Barack Obama that he hoped the United States would work with the international organization to address climate change and the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. The two leaders also spoke about the ongoing war in Afghanistan. Obama said that he wanted to work with Ban on those subjects. He said that the situation in Darfur was not acceptable and that inaction was "not acceptable."
