The US-led coalition says 27 insurgents have been killed in two separate clashes in southern Afghanistan. The coalition released a statement saying 15 suspected insurgents were killed Friday after clashes and airstrikes in Helmand province's Lashkar Gah district. Another 12 died during clashes in neighboring Uruzgan province. There were no reports of Afghan forces or coalition casualties. Southern Afghanistan is the center of the Taliban-led insurgency, where thousands of new US-troops will be joining to fight later this year to try reverse the insurgent gains.
