Yemen: 361 Somali migrants arrive in four days

361 Somali migrants reached the Yemeni coast in the first four days of December, Yemen's Interior Ministry said Friday. Friday's statement did not specify what authorities did with the migrants, but they are usually transferred to refugee camps under the supervision of the United Nations. The ministry said Wednesday the bodies of 24 Somali migrants had washed up on the country's shores. Hundreds of Africans die every year trying to reach Yemen, with many drowning or being attacked by pirates and smugglers in the dangerous waters separating Somalia and the Arabian peninsula. The UN refugee agency reported that more than 43,500 migrants - mostly Somalis - have arrived illegally by boat to Yemen this year.
