'al-Qaida cell responsible for attack on US embassy'

A Yemeni Interior Ministry official says that al-Qaida was behind the attack on the US Embassy in Yemen that hit a nearby girls' high school, killing a security guard. Speaking on condition of anonymity, because he is not authorized to speak to media, the official says that al-Qaida militant Hamza al-Dayan is the leader of the group which attempted to fire three mortars at the US Embassy building last week. No arrests have taken place but the official added that three other al-Qaida militants fled with al-Dayan in a vehicle after the attack, which claimed the live of a local Yemeni security guard and injured six other guards and school students. The heavily guarded US Embassy in Yemen has been targeted in the past.
