Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has claimed that the country has fired a new surface-to-surface missile that has a range of 2,000 kilometers. In a campaign speech in his hometown in northern Iran on Wednesday, Ahmadinejad said that the Sajil 2 missile "hit its target." He said that the new model was propelled by solid fuel and was an improvement over the Shihab 3 missile.
