Iran says Hamas has right to weapons

Iran says the Palestinian group Hamas has a legitimate right to have weapons to defend the Gaza Strip. Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki says Iranian adversary Israel is well provided with weapons and that it would be wrong to question the Palestinians about obtaining arms. After the three-week-long operation Cast Lead, Israel has demanded that weapons smuggling to Hamas be cut off. Iran denies providing weapons to Hamas but says it does provide financial and humanitarian support to the group. Mottaki refused in comments reported Wednesday by state television's Web site to respond to charges that Iran provides Hamas with weapons.
