US Secretary of State Michael “Mike” Pompeo visited the Western Wall on Thursday. He was joined by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, and was met by the Chief Rabbi of the Kotel Shmuel Rabinovitch.

After putting a personal note into the Kotel, Pompeo received a tour of the Western Wall tunnels, including the Shaarei Teshuva Synagogue.
Pompeo’s visit with Netanyahu was the first by such a high-ranking American official. He told reporters before the trip that “this is something that I've been talking with Prime Minister Netanyahu about doing some time ago. It's our first chance to go there together.”
