Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit registered a complaint with the Israel Police on Wednesday, following a massive increase in phone threats he and his family received on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Mandelblit presented police with screenshots from his personal phone showing messages he received, such as “die, you and your children, we will get to you during a protest.”
He was also sent images of himself in Nazi uniforms and prison uniforms. Allegedly, the harassers are extreme right-wing activists.
Mandelblit spoke with the police for roughly one hour.
Israel State Attorney Association head Orit Kurin said the threats “cross all the red lines” and demanded that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Justice Minister Amir Ohana will address the issue that evening.
“I expect public officials to raise a clear voice about this matter before blood is spilled,” she said.
She added that, in her opinion, the security detail assigned to the attorney-general should be increased.
Labor leader Amir Peretz also said threats against the attorney-general are “crossing a red line” and should be “denounced by all.” He expressed his confidence the police will track down the criminals and bring them to justice.
Yesh Atid MK Orna Barbivay tweeted that "Shin Bet can pin-point any coronavirus patient who is moving a meter from his home, yet the start-up nation doesn't have anyone who can figure out who is inciting [violence] against Mandelblit."
