Nir Bergman’s ‘Just for Today’ slated to premiere in Israel soon.
By AMY SPIROHenry David and Tal Lifshitz in 'Just for Today'(photo credit: VERED ADIR/YES)Just for Today, an upcoming Israeli TV series, won the special jury prize at the Series Mania competition in Lille, France, on Saturday night.The Yes show, created by Nir Bergman, is a drama that tells the story of released prisoners living in a halfway house in south Tel Aviv. Yes said on Saturday evening that the show is slated to hit Israeli airwaves soon.“Suspenseful, touching and full of heart, Just for Today is a beautifully realized portrait of newly released prisoners and the social workers assigned to help them adjust to life on the outside,” the jury said in a statement.The grand prize of the evening went to the British TV show The Virtues. Bergman is one of the creators of the Israeli show BeTipul, which was adapted by HBO as the critically acclaimed In Treatment. This is the third year running that Israeli TV shows have been honored at the Series Mania festival. Last year, the Yes show On the Spectrum took home the grand prize. Earlier this month Amazon announced it was creating a US version of the show, which focuses on three young adults with autism. And in 2017 the Yes show Your Honor took home the festival’s top prize, and the HOT series Juda took home the bloggers’ prize for best show. Your Honor is being remade by Showtime, featuring Bryan Cranston in the lead role, while Juda was recently picked up by Hulu.
