English comedian and host of HBO’s Emmy award-winning late night talk show Last Week Tonight John Oliver is coming to Israel on January 15 as part of the promotion of HBO’s new channel on the Hot cable network. Hot recently purchased the rights to show HBO’s content library, which includes such popular series as Westworld, The Nigh Of and Game of Thrones.
Oliver became widely known in the United States for his work on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, where he became the third person to host the show. In 2014, Oliver became the host of Last Week Tonight, presenting a half-hour satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events.
From discussing the top stories being highlighted in US mainstream media, to talking about the problems with things like food labeling, intelligence gathering and professional cheerleading, Oliver offers a comic but smart perspective on political, economic and social issues.
The show won a Peabody Award for excellence in 2014 and has won multiple Emmy Awards: for outstanding interactive program (2015), outstanding variety talk series (2016) and outstanding writing for a variety series (2016).
