The film Star Trek Beyond, the latest installment of the sci-fi saga, takes the USS Enterprise to a mysterious world after an assault forces the starship to crash-land there. The assault was launched by Krall, a lizard-like dictator who derives his energy from sucking the life out of his victims. Stranded in a rugged wilderness, Captain Kirk, Mister Spock and the rest of the crew must battle a fearsome alien race as they try to find a way off the hostile planet. 3. CHEERS TO THE END OF SUMMER

The annual Jerusalem Beer Festival is one of the largest events of the beer industry in Israel. This year, the festival will host some 120 types of beer. Dozens of established brands, boutique breweries, local breweries and international brands will serve the best of their beer, so the festival visitors can savor a variety of brews with different flavors and unique aromas.

4. CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL

The 19th edition of the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival opens September 1 at the Jerusalem YMCA. The 10-day roster includes stellar acts with plenty of acclaimed returnees such as virtuoso British classical pianist and conductor Sir András Schiff; the Michaelangelo String Quartet; New York cellist Tim Park; and many more veteran and young up-and-coming stars. A music lover’s haven, the festival features Baroque, 19th- and 20th-century compositions.

5. GENTLE MEN


The X-it Dance-Theatre from Cyprus presents an evening of works by choreographers Fotis Nikolaou and Hamilton Monteiro as part of the Tel Aviv Dance Festival. Nikolaou’s work, These Gentle Hearts Are Like Shot Birds Falling, reflects on male gentleness and affection, the need for love and the search for identity and belonging. Marika’s Dress, the solo piece by Monteiro, is about an androgynous person who lived in Limassol, Cyprus, at the beginning of the 1900s.

6. SPANISH JERUSALEM

Ethnic musician Ofer Ronen combines Andalusian sounds with Mediterranean music, texts and dance in a performance of new and original flamenco. With vocalist Miriam Levy; dancer Elinor Alpert; Ofer Ronen on guitar; Yogev Levy on ethnic instruments nai and saz; Liat Saba on cello; and Hagai Leshem on percussion.

7. ROCK HEROES

The California rock band Eagles of Death Metal has recovered from the trauma of the attack during their show at Paris’s Bataclan theater and is launching a world tour that will bring them back to Israel on September 5. The band was formed in the late 1990s by Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme. During their 2015 show, the band stood up to calls for boycotting Israel, with Hughes telling the raucous crowd, “I would never boycott a place like this.”

8. BLUES OF THE PROMISED LAND

Mississippi bluesman Robert “Bilbo” Walker captivates audiences with his rhythms, charisma and soul-searing electric guitar. In Israel, he will perform songs from his last three albums The Promised Land, Rock the Night and Rompin’ & Stompin’, accompanied by Israeli Yehu Yaron on bass and Aviv Barak on drums.

9. A PERFECT MUSICAL


Described by the British Sunday Times as “the perfect musical,” the new production of Guys and Dolls is coming to Tel Aviv’s Opera House for 15 shows, starting September 12. The acclaimed production was first performed at the Chichester Festival, later moved to London’s West End, and then to the world.

The show is in English with Hebrew surtitles.


10. RHAPSODY IN THE PARK

Legendary rock band Queen is coming to Israel, fronted by singer Adam Lambert. Formed in 1970 with Freddie Mercury as the front man, Queen is one of the most influential rock bands of the last century. The producers have announced that VIP seats are sold out, leaving some tickets in the Gold ring and standing tickets on the grass.
