· A small group of protesters marched down Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv, demonstrating against the natural gas rigs being built off the coast of Dor Beach near Haifa in Israel's North.
As they walked, the group carried Israeli flags together with black flags, which sported an image of a white skull and crossbones insignia. Environmentalists, local authorities and NGOs are waging a campaign to have the platform moved 125 kilometers.
In January, Labor leader Avi Gabbay also joined the fray, saying that, "there is a no more just struggle than the struggle for our health."
In September, thousands gathered across the country, including in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa and even Zichron Yaakov to protest the platforms' location, arguing that it will destroy the sea as well as irrevocably damage the health of Israelis living near the coast.
One of the biggest concerns voiced during last year's protest was the fact that a bi-product of the production process is benzene, which is a known carcinogen. Tel Aviv, Haifa, Herzliya and other Israeli communities such as Kibbutz Ma'agan Michael and Moshav Beit Tanai being located along the coast of Israel. According to the protesters, millions of Israelis might be affected.
Last June, about a thousand Israeli surfers took to the Mediterranean Sea to protest the dangers that the gas rig poses.
