Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion will hold a briefing about the snowfall possibility on Tuesday.

If the forecasters are correct, Jerusalemites and residents of high-altitude communities should get their snow gear out Wednesday. Wintry weather, including snow, is expected to hit Jerusalem and parts of Gush Etzion, the Galilee and Golan late Wednesday afternoon and continue throughout the night.Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion called on the public to heed the instructions of the municipality and the security forces in the event of snow and the likelihood that traffic could be disrupted.“Alongside the celebration we hope that there will be, the snow requires personal preparation by residents, as well,” Lion said. After consulting with the Israel Police and the Home Front Command, the Jerusalem Municipality announced that all schools, kindergartens and daycare centers would close at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, to ensure the safety of students and residents.Special education transportation will be operated accordingly.The municipality also announced that in preparation for possible snowfall, it would employ approximately 150 snow plows, tractors, salt dispensers and engineering tools capable of leveling main roads. The municipality has 250 tons of salt to disperse upon the upcoming snow.Additionally, the municipality recommended that residents of Jerusalem take proper precautions in the event of snowfall, such as equipping themselves with non-electrical heating devices, trimming greenery near cables and so on.
