A crocodile that escaped from a nearby zoo in the quaint northern moshav of Beit Hanania startled a number of local residents who hurriedly called the police on Saturday.

The two-meter-long aquatic reptile was seen wandering around the moshav, which is near Zichron Ya’akov, after it managed to escape the Amat Ha’taninim alligator park.

The panicked residents hastened to call the police for fear that the animal would seek to get closer to their homes.

Zichron Ya’akov police arrived at the scene and surrounded the crocodile so as to prevent it from wandering freely in the area.

Authorities contacted the owners of the alligator park who worked to trap the animal and bring it back to its holding pen.
