The Beersheba district court sentenced 37-year-old local man Avraham Yalma to a life sentence and an additional 15 years in prison after convicting him for raping and murdering his neighbor in 2014.
The gruesome details of the crime against a 66-year-old grandmother were exposed in the judges verdict, who detailed how Yalma met the victim upon her return from volunteer work aiding Holocaust survivors, took her to his apartment and violently raped, then murdered her. He then left her body on the floor and let his dog, an American Staffordshire Terrier, feed on her remains.
A day after the crime, Yalma, realizing he had to hide his deed, took a taxi to a local hardware store where he purchased an electric saw. He then returned to the apartment and attempted to dismember her corpse. When he failed to do that, he reached out to his sisters, asking for their help in disposing of the body. Horrified by the crime, his sisters decided to call the police.
"A trail of blood led us from the bedroom to the kitchen, we found the body placed underneath a blanket. A woman's body with a half-eaten face, cuts and bruises on all her organs and an electrical cable placed beneath her," one of the officers who reached the scene testified."Whoever reads the description in the verdict, might mistakenly think it was a script taken from a horror movie," wrote the judge Yael Raz-Levi. "The truth is that we are dealing with an insufferable reality that took place in the suspect's apartment."
