Buoyed by a last minute equalizer against KBY in the first round of this season’s fixtures, Mikdash displayed a ruthless streak as it sensationally put last year’s finalist Egert & Cohen to the sword in a 3-1 result in Week 2 of the uniqueisrael.com Jerusalem Soccer League.
Three quick-fire goals within the opening 15 minutes, including a brace by Joshua Levy, seemed to stun Egert & Cohen, which couldn’t recover its mojo without injured star striker Tani Goldstuck. A second-half Josh Zneimer penalty proved to be scant consolation.
Elsewhere, Maccabi Gibraltar announced itself as a contending force to be reckoned with by maintaining its perfect record and moving to the top of the table in some style with a 2-1 victory over Mercaz United.
Zak Meltzer was the Gibraltar hero for the second week running, scoring a stunning brace.
The equalizer was an instinctive scissor kick and a wonderful finish after a mazy run from the halfway line sounded the death toll for Mercaz.
Also, Gamezone had no answer to the slick attacking of Midreshet Ziv in a 2-0 loss. Eyal Waldman was pulling the strings for Ziv with some wonderful one-touch passing, and was in the right place to latch onto a through ball on the edge of the box and hammer it home.
In another surprising outcome, R’Zvis rallied and was able to hold on for a well-deserved point in a 1-1 draw with Clubhouse.
