Magen David Adom EMS pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Police opened an investigation and were checking if another individual was present in the car at the time of the explosion, according to the report.

"In the center of the street the vehicle was engulfed in flames. A man was trapped inside the car and after the fire was extinguished when it was possible to approach the vehicle we could observe the dead victim inside," Adi Varshilavsky an MDA paramedic said.

Last March an underworld figure was seriously injured in a car bomb in Netanya.

The victim, Ayal Sofer, is a well-known organized crime figure in the Netanya area, and has survived a number of attempts on his life in the past.
