A shooting in Netanya left two people dead and six people injured late Monday night. The shooting, which was criminal in nature, took place at a house on Isser Harel Street.
Magen David Adom paramedics received reports of the shooting at 11:23 pm. The two seriously injured persons, Ron Ya’acov, 19, and Aviv Boaron, 20, were evacuated in critical condition to the Lianado Hospital in Netanya where they would succumbed to their wounds. The four others were lightly and moderately injured and evacuated to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera and the Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba.
The shooter apparently climbed over a fence into the backyard of the home where a barbecue was taking place and started shooting at the group. Dozens of bullet casings were found at the scene.
“This is a difficult event of indiscriminate shooting in backyard,” Chief-Superintendent Ami Ben David said to press at the scene, later adding that police are working to locate the shooter.
Friends of the two victims who spoke with Ynet News said they believe young men were “at the wrong place at the wrong time,” and were not the shooter’s intended targets. Before the event, Boaron posted a photo of himself smiling at the barbecue.
The police’s Central Division is investigating the case and patrols were conducted through the night to locate the shooter to no avail. The police also placed a gag order on all details that could identify the suspect or suspects in the shooting.
This shooting comes after young man was shot dead by an assailant on motorcycle while walking on the Bat Yam promenade on Monday evening.
