Israel celebrated the 67th anniversary of its creation with an aerial show on Thursday, drawing masses of Independence Day enthusiasts from their homes to witness the extravaganza.

Hundreds took to the nation's beaches to catch a glimpse of the Israeli Air Force Aerobatic Team flying over the Mediterranean Sea.

Wetsuit-clad surfers and beachgoers in Tel Aviv stopped to gaze at the F-16 planes as they jetted through the partly-cloudy skies.

Despite unseasonably cool temperatures and bouts of rain, thousands of revelers flocked to the country's parks and picnic areas to mark the national holiday.

More than 30,000 Israelis, undeterred by the strong winds and cool weather, headed out to parks and nature reserves, the Israel Nature and Parks Authority said.
