Assad counting on next US president to help peace move forward

Syrian President Bashar Assad said he was counting on the next US president to help peace move forward, but was also looking for Europe - and notably France - to play a greater role, according to an interview with a French daily released Monday. Assad said his planned visit this weekend to Paris would be "historic" as "it opens a large door [for Syria] to the international scene," according to the interview with Le Figaro to be published Tuesday.
