Diskin: If elections were held in West Bank today, Hamas would win

If the Palestinian Authority were to hold elections in the West Bank today, Hamas would win, Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin told members of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee during a briefing on Tuesday. "It's possible to predict that were the elections in the Palestinian Authority held today, Hamas would have a good chance of winning," he said. The Shin Bet head said that while PA security forces had stepped up their counter-terror activity, most of the operations which had thwarted terror attacks had been conducted by Israel. "I wouldn't transfer the responsibility of security [to the PA]," he said.
