IDF undergoing severe shortage in number and quality of medical doctors

The IDF's Medical Corps is experiencing a severe shortage of practitioners, Israel Radio reported. Consrcript regimens are severely lacking in doctors and the existing doctors are not from the profession's top ranks. The crisis has been going on for the last decade, but recently a low number of medical students signing up to serve in the IDF's Medical Corps has worsened the situation. Medical doctors told Israel Radio they wanted to establish an external commission involving the chief of staff to find ways to solve the crisis and warned of hazards to soldiers' health, especially in combat units and remote bases.
