Israeli woman dies after being arrested by Ecuadorian authorities

A 19-year-old woman from Haifa, who was being held in custody in Ecuador on suspicion of drug related felonies, died on Sunday. The circumstances surrounding her death were not yet clear. The young woman was arrested at the airport in Ecuador together with another young Israeli, on suspicion that they were trying to smuggle drugs out of the country. Shortly after the arrest, the young woman was found in her cell unconscious and was evacuated to the hospital, where she died.
