Livni: No Palestinian state without Israel's security guaranteed

Hours after Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salaam Fayad expressed doubt over the probability that a peace deal would be signed with Israel by the end of 2008, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni made her own remarks on the subject, vowing that no Palestinian state would ever be created unless it could guarantee Israel's security.
"A Palestinian state can be founded only if it provides answers to [issues, including] Israel's security needs," Livni said after a meeting with American envoy Gen. James Jones, adding that demilitarization, and control over border crossings also had to be ensured.
