Livni to Mitchell: Israel, US should strengthen ME moderates, weaken Iran

Israel is striving to reach a peace agreement that will represent its security and national interests, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni told US Mideast envoy George Mitchell. In a Wednesday evening meeting, Livni surveyed the Israeli strategy and aspirations to reach a peace agreement compatible with Israel's security needs. She added that Israel believes in the two-state vision, and that Israel and the US can and should translate their common interests to joint plans of action that will strengthen the moderate forces in the region while harming the extreme factions such as Iran and Hamas.
