Science, Culture and Sports Minister Raleb Majadle drew fire on Monday after comments he made about the Arab woman were published. Majadle was the guest of honor at the Israeli Arab sector's beauty queen pageant that was held in Shfaram on Sunday. Majadle reportedly said that a "woman in the Arab sector who has a career but also centers on family life - that can go together. However, a woman who has a career but neglects the household destroys her home." According to Majadle, "I would like to see the Arab woman fill a central role in family-building as it is portrayed in the Arab world, not the blind Israeli-European-modern perception. A woman must stand by her husband." The minister later argued that the media was misleading the public. "Only some of the things I said were used. I said that women must be involved in building a society, while maintaining family life. That is the modern society in which our children should grow up in. Make no mistake, the man too must be committed to his family and home," he told Army Radio.
