'National Clean Up Day' to be held every March

The Knesset Internal Affairs and Environment Committee approved in their second and third readings a bill to establish an annual national clean up day in March. Pupils and soldiers would be obliged to clean up public parks and streets and engage in other educational activities. The bill, approved Sunday, was proposed by Nadia Hilu (Labor) and modeled on the international 'Clean Up the World Day' which falls every September. The Education Ministry requested that the day be moved to another part of the year because of the holidays which dominate September, so the committee moved it to March because it fit in with the spirit of Pesach.
