National police academy to be built in Beit Shemesh

The Israel Police has announced a tender for the construction of a giant training academy in Beit Shemesh in 2013.
The new academy will train recruits to deal with explosives and collect evidence, and will provide a new firearms training facility and dorms for fresh recruits.
It will provide a state-of-the-art physical-education training center, police added.
In a joint press conference held on Sunday with Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch, Israel Police Insp.-Gen.
David Cohen said the new academy would replace the current 20 academies which are spread out across the country.
Cohen said the academy was part of a "policing revolution" which has been underway over the past four years, aimed at updating the police force for the 21st century.
"Training is the beating heart of the Israel Police. There will be one site, which will increase our professionalism and our firearms training," he added.
Aharonovitch said the new police academy "will greatly benefit Beit Shemesh."
