Nazareth mayor: Pope to celebrate public Mass in town

Pope Benedict XVI will celebrate a public Mass in Nazareth when he visits Israel in May, the city's mayor, Ramiz Jeraisi said Tuesday. The said the Mass will take place in the town of Jesus' boyhood on May 14 at Mount Precipice, where tradition holds a mob pursued Jesus and tried to throw him from a cliff. Benedict XVI is scheduled to visit Jerusalem, Bethlehem and other Christian sites when he visits in May. The late Pope John Paul II came to the Holy Land in a 2000 pilgrimage, visiting Israel and the Palestinian territories.
