Mother who drowned her 4-year-old son not charged with murder due to her unstable mental condition.

The Tel Aviv District Court on Sunday morning convicted Olga Borisov of killing her four-year-old son Alon Yehuda.
Borisov, who drowned her son off a Bat Yam beach last August, was convicted of manslaughter, rather than murder, after the State Prosecution reached a plea bargain with the Rishon Lezion woman's defense and amended her charge sheet.
Borisov was initially charged with murder. During the trial, however, the court found that she was plagued by bouts of depression and was in an unstable mental condition when she killed her son.
At the same time, a psychiatric evaluation determined her fit to stand trial.
The combination of the expert opinions, deeming Borisov mentally unfit at the time of the crime, yet fit to stand trial, led the prosecution and the defendant's attorney to reach a plea bargain.
