Olmert congratulates head of Israeli team at CERN accelerator project

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert spoke with Professor Giora Mikenberg, head of the team of Israeli scientists participating in the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) Large Hadron Collider experiment in Switzerland, on Wednesday. Prof. Mikenberg told Olmert that the experiment was making greater progress than expected and added that he was optimistic regarding its success. The Professor said that Israeli technology systems - among the most advanced in the world - were being used in the experiment. He told the prime minister that, in the framework of the experiment, Israeli scientists were cooperating with Palestinian scientists, as well as with scientists from the Arab world, and added that this would advance peace between Israel and the Arab countries. Prof. Mikenberg thanked Olmert for the great assistance and encouragement that the State of Israel has given to the Israeli scientists and to the project itself. Prime Minister Olmert said "I am very proud of the contribution of Israeli scientists and Israeli technology in an experiment of this size, which could affect all humanity. Israel is a superpower in technology and advanced thinking. Israeli scientists hold an honored place in their fields. The State of Israel is happy to support such a project and hopes to be involved in additional projects in order to provide a better future for all humanity."
