President Shimon Peres will represent Israel at the UN General Assembly later in September, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert agreed with Peres in a Thursday evening phone conversation.
The prime minister called Peres and asked that the president travel to New York to attend the meeting as Olmert would not be able to take part in the convention.
The UN General Assembly is scheduled to begin on September 23 and is expected to last three days.
