Two people were killed in two separate car accidents in northern Israel overnight Thursday and early Friday.
The first incident occurred on Route 85, after two cars collided between Hananya junction and Rama, in the Galilee.
An initial investigation showed that the two cars were traveling from Kfar Karmiel, when one of the vehicles hit the other during an overtaking maneuver. As a result of the collision, one of the cars hit a tree, killing one person and seriously injuring another. A man in the second vehicle was lightly hurt. The casualties were evacuated to Ziv Hospital in Safed.
In the second accident, 21-year-old Muhammad Hassan, from Tamra, was waiting for his car to be towed in Kiryat Ata when a passing vehicle hit the tow truck, trapping him. Rescue workers managed to free the man from the wreckage, but were forced to pronounce him dead at the scene.
Police detained the driver of the passing vehicle, a 48-year-old Haifa man, for questioning.
On Thursday, a man in his twenties was killed and a woman was seriously injured in a car accident at the Ein Hamifratz junction near Acre.
