State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss announced on Tuesday that he would open an official investigation into the Galant Document affair.

Tuesday's announcement came after Defense Minister Ehud Barak requested that Lindenstrauss investigate the suspicious circumstances regarding the use of forged documents in the competition to replace Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi as the next IDF chief of staff, which led to the eventual appointment of Maj.-Gen. Yoav Galant.

"In regard to the additional information gathered and after the Police transferred the investigation file to prosecutors, I have decided to open a probe. "Included in [the probe] are the activities and dealings of Col. (res.) Harpaz with the defense establishment in various areas, such as: purchase and requisition decisions, reciprocal relationships with various officials in the defense establishment as well as other related topics."

Lindenstrauss has also issued invitations to Barak and Ashkenazi to talk with the comptroller.

In relation to his planned meeting with the defense minister and IDF chief of staff Lindenstrauss said, "It is essential that the state comptroller will have exclusive access in his investigations so that this inquiry will not be disturbed by other investigations being conducted." The other investigations mentioned seemed to be made in reference the Defense Ministry-appointed Brik Commission that is still ongoing.
