US-Israel group to prepare policy help

Group of lawmakers to prepare foreign policy recommendations for next US administration.

A group of American and Israeli lawmakers are planning to establish a US-Israel joint study group to prepare foreign policy recommendations for the next American administration. The initiative will be discussed at a Wednesday meeting of the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus, a bipartisan group of lawmakers dedicated to Israel's right to live in peace within secure borders, The group will meet with two MKs from the Christian Allies Caucus, the cross-party parliamentary lobby that works with Christian supporters of Israel around the world. The Capitol Hill meeting, which will be attended by MK Benny Elon (NU-NRP) and MK Orit Noked (Labor), will also discuss ongoing rocket attacks by Hamas and ways to pressure Iran to cease its pursuit of a nuclear weapon. "Those who stand together for freedom, democracy and justice must stand with Israel in its hour of greatest trial," said Congressman Dave Weldon, (Republican-Florida) who serves as co-chairman of the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus. The American lobby, which was set up two years ago following the establishment of the increasingly influential Knesset Christian Allies Caucus, aims to further cooperation and friendship with the State of Israel. Over the past year, the four-year-old Israeli lobby has been forming and finalizing "sister caucuses" with 10 countries - including the US, Canada, Uruguay, Brazil, Korea, Philippines, Malawi, South Africa, England and Norway.
