Germans await OK on Cairo trip to check notorious Nazi doctor's death

German police say they are awaiting approval from Egypt to travel to Cairo and investigate claims that a notorious Nazi doctor died there in 1992.
New information indicates Austrian-born concentration camp doctor Aribert Heim lived in Cairo under an Arab name before his death from intestinal cancer. Heim is accused of murdering hundreds of Jews.
Horst Haug, a spokesman for the Baden-Wuerttemberg state police unit tasked with Nazi-era crimes, said Monday that investigators hope to go to Cairo by the end of this week to search for definitive proof of Heim's death.
German broadcaster ZDF and the New York Times reported last week that Heim's remains might not be found because he was buried in a cemetery where graves are reused after several years.
