Every year, thousands of participants flock to North America’s General Assembly, hosted by the The Jewish Federation. Bringing current and future leaders together, the Annual Campaign's main goal is to raise funds for a range of needs; donations go across the Jewish world to aid with education, social services and social welfare.

The Jewish Federations Annual Campaign represents 157 Federations across the US and Canada, and is among the top 10 charities on the continent. With the main goal of caring for and enhancing the well-being of Jews from all over the world, the organization makes substantial donations every year through money raised from an array of sponsors.

Donations per year (in millions of dollars)

In 2009, The Jewish Federations Annual Campaign raised $945.5 million, $288 million of which was sent directly to Israel. In 2010 they received $925 million, sending $275 million to Israel. Remaining funds are transferred to agencies such as the JCC, synagogues and various Jewish educational organizations, and support is also provided for Jews from the former Soviet Union, and efforts to help bring the remaining Ethiopian Jews to back to Israel. Funds are also set aside to help victims of terror and the vulnerable front-line communities.

This year, the GA will be looking to improve on last year's figures, which were possibly down due to the current economic climate, in order to carry on with their goal of supporting every facet of Jewish life. In such times of economic uncertainty, The Jewish Federation’s Annual Campaign will likely be needed more than ever.

As registration opens for the GA three-day event, November 6-8, a number of prominent speakers are lined up to share their ideas and thoughts, including US Ambassador to Israel Daniel B. Shapiro, Israeli Consul-General to New York Ido Aharoni and MK Einat Wilf.

The event will focus on bringing new and emerging Jewish leaders together in order to engage with them and ultimately to inspire them. This year’s offering includes: getting advice on how best to transform your company whether that be through challenging yourself or improving your leadership, discovering the remarkable journey of Ethiopian Jewry, Jews in the Muslim world and open dialogue on community building in Jerusalem.

The Jewish Federation is also tasked with looking at and discussing some of the critical issues facing the Jewish world today. For example, this year's discussion on the possible impact on the Federation's resources due to the future needs of the Baby Boomer generation.
