Leaders from Jewish communities around the world gathered in Jerusalem on Monday, for ongoing sessions of the annual meeting of the Governing Board of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) which kicked off Sunday night.
Among other notable speakers, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Monday was set to address a WJC session on "The Arab Revolutions."
After being introduced by WJC President Ronald S. Lauder, President Shimon Peres said that the Iranian leadership represents the world's worst case of moral corruption today.
The president told 250 Jewish delegates from 45 countries that past occasions when the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was allowed to visit the United Nations in New York and was welcomed by its General Assembly were a disgrace.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, opposition leader Tzipi Livni and Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon are also set to address the conference.
During the three-day meeting, the Governing Board will elect a new secretary-general of the WJC to succeed Michael Schneider. The WJC Executive has unanimously nominated the respected foreign policy expert from Israel, Daniel Diker, for the most senior WJC professional position.
