The Golan Residents Committee is continuing to work against any possible return of the Golan Heights to Syria. The local.co.il Web site reports that the committee, which was inactive for a number of years, returned to work in a hurry following recent reports on renewed, albeit indirect, peace negotiations between Jerusalem and Damascus. Head of the Golan Heights Regional Council Eli Malka, and head of the Katzrin local council Sami Bar-Lev, are leading the committee, which has already received declarations by several politicians that the Golan will remain in Israeli hands. The committee is directing most of its efforts toward attracting volunteers and donations that will be at the ready should the possibility of giving up the Golan return to the table. "We're on alert and ready for any scenario," the committee said.
