Kfar Saba residents complain of trees being chopped down

"Those trees shaded the whole park. Now there is no shade over the children's playground equipment," one dismayed resident said.

Residents living near Kfar Saba's Gedaliyahu Lachman park were dismayed to discover that 10 large old ficus trees were suddenly chopped down last week without anyone being notified, reports www.local.co.il. The residents said the trees had been cut down for no apparent reason, leaving skeletal trunks, and at the rate things were going there would soon be no trees left in Kfar Saba. "Those trees shaded the whole park. Now there is no shade over the children's playground equipment," one dismayed resident said. But a municipal spokesman said the trees' branches had damaged the roof of an adjoining synagogue and windows of nearby homes. He said the severe pruning would help "strengthen and preserve" the trees.
