Residents bare teeth at noisy kennel

A report says that apart from being annoying to humans, the constant barking shows that the animals are in distress.

Residents of Tel Aviv's Nahalat Yitzhak neighborhood are complaining that the noise from a local kennel run by the Society for the Protection of Animals (Tsa'ar Ba'alei Haim) is driving them barking mad, reports www.mynet.co.il. The residents say the dogs' constant barking is irritating them by day and keeping them awake at nights, but the city is failing to take any action to muzzle the noise. According to the report, the kennel is located in the heart of the residential neighborhood, virtually under the balconies of apartments in an adjoining upmarket apartment building. Residents say the dogs bark constantly, with their noise being "unbearable" in the evenings, at nights and on weekends. They also say the animals bring dirt and fleas to the area. The report said that apart from being annoying to humans, the constant barking shows that the animals are in distress, with the kennel being too small and too enclosed. It said the kennel should be moved out to the periphery of the city, where there is more open space and where it would be more accessible to members of the public wanting to visit it and adopt an animal. No response was reported from the Society, but a municipal spokesman said the city's veterinarian had visited the kennel and found "no cause to take action against the place." Nevertheless, the spokesman said, the city had instructed the operators "to avoid activities that stimulate the dogs during the neighbors' rest hours."
