Students to get transport discount

Students at tertiary institutions in the Negev will soon receive the same transport subsidy as their counterparts in the center of the country and will be able to travel on public buses at half-price, reports www.local.co.il. Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz authorized the 50 percent discount for students in the south after receiving a request for the subsidy from the head of the Authority for the Development of the Negev, Shmuel Rifman. According to the report, half-price bus travel for students at colleges and universities in the center of Israel began about a year ago, and some months ago Rifman asked the minister to approve the same privilege for higher-education students in the Negev. Mofaz has now given the green light to the discount, which will take effect in the next semester.
