The Israeli taxi drivers' organization has come out in support of an initiative by the city of Tel Aviv to convert the entire fleet of the city's taxis to hybrid vehicles, reports www.local.co.il. The organization said it had a common interest with the city in wanting to put this "vital step" into action, and would make every effort to move the process forward speedily. According to the report, some 5,000 taxis operate in the Tel Aviv-Jaffa area, and the municipality, supported by the Ministry for Environmental Protection, recently began planning how to convert them to hybrid vehicles in an effort to reduce air pollution. Now that the taxi drivers' organization has offered "to support and assist the process," the plan will come up for discussion by city officials over the next few weeks.
