Abbas urges US to press Israel into accelerating peace process

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas called on the United States to press Israel into accelerating the peace process, Israel Radio reported late Sunday evening. The US should ask itself whether it wants to see peace between Israel and the Palestinians this year or continuing chaos in the region, Abbas was quoted as saying. In an interview to Jordanian television, Abbas warned Israel that if it refuses to make peace, it will be responsible for destabilizing the security and politics of the entire Middle East. Abbas is slated to meet US President Barack Obama in late May.
